Stakes, Fixed limit, pot limit and no limit

 Every poker table has 2 stake limits, which dictates the minimum bet and raise amounts allowed for the various betting rounds.  Bets and raises are also made in increments of the stake amounts.

 There are 3 types of limits that apply to the maximum amount that a player can bet or raise by, in any betting round of poker: 

• Fixed Limit

The maximum amount that a player can bet or raise by in any fixed limit game, is equal to the stake limit for the betting round in which he is playing.

• No Limit

In No Limit games, there is no limit to the amount that a player may bet or raise by; however, the player will still be limited to the total amount of available funds at the table at which he is playing. 

• Pot Limit

The maximum amount that a player may bet or raise by in a pot limit game, is equal to the amount that a player wagers in order to call a bet (if a bet has been made) plus the total collective amount of all the wagers made into the winning pot.
